How to lessen the financial blow of your wedding

wedding lanterns costsNot everyone has the luxury of being able to plan their dream wedding with a blank cheque at their fingertips. These days people pay anything up to half a million pounds for their special day! The average American wedding costs between $20,000 and $30,000 so if you’d rather spend that money on your house or honeymoon or you simply would rather save then spend that amount on anything, here are some tips to cut the cost.

Figure out what is the most important part of the day for you and your partner. Is it the venue, the music, the dress, the flowers? Once you’ve decided on that, you can allocate funds from there. If the dress is the least important you can always buy a secondhand one for half the price. Some women splash out and spend thousands on their wedding gowns then sell them soon after. You can grab a great deal on a frock doing it this way.

Other great ways to save on things like music and photography include hooking up your ipod to a set of speakers and using a friend or a photography student to capture your special day at a fraction of the cost. Also, look at having your wedding during the off season, spring and summer are the most popular times to have a wedding and have a price tag to reflect that. Why not try for an autumn or winter wedding? Venues will have dropped their prices considerably so you are sure to get a great deal.

There are also wonderful savings to be made on the invitations, there’s no need to send them off to professional printers when you can do them yourselves on your home computer. If you have creative flair you’ll be more than ok with making them yourself, however if you lack that certain creativity gene which most of us do, find a friend who has it and encourage them to help you out, it could even be a wedding present from them to you.

It’s relatively inexpensive to create an impressive ending to your reception with the use of wedding lanterns. They are small paper balloons that float up to the skies and carry wishes for you and partner with them. They look incredible in the sky, will certainly impress your guests and won’t cost the earth. You can always ask someone to buy them for you as their wedding gift to you if you wanted to save even further.
